Corned beef, cabbage and potatoes boiled on the stove. Colleen and Paddy set down at the wooden table, drinkin’ their pint of ale. Twas getting dark on the horizon, though it twasn’t near the time of sunset for the day.
“Aye, one more pint of this ‘ere ale, and we’ll be making merry in the haystack,” laughed Paddy in his hearty Irish way.
Colleen flounced up her lacy frock to give a bird’s eye view of what was to come.
Paddy smiled and said, “Nah, not until Liam gets here, me lady. Not until Liam makes his rounds to be sure!”
“A four leaf clover wouldn’t get me more attention than a drunkin’ old Irishman,” Colleen stood tall, smacked old Paddy on the cheek with rosy red lips and made her way to check their supper. “A three leaf clover wouldn’t stand a chance,” she said gaily as she headed on her way.
“Ah, but a bucket of gold from the end of a rainbow, ladies and gents, that might make my wild Irish rose give me a smile, would it not?” asked Liam illuminating the room with his entrance.
At that, Colleen and Paddy broke into song and started dancing their annual Irish jig with Liam, the neighborhood leprechaun.
Luck O’ the Irish and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
