As the rain fell and his twins headed off to school, David melted into his favorite chair. The twins were ten years old now – no recollection of their mother whatsoever. Raising them had been one of the hardest things he ever had to do.
Overcoming the pain of that fateful day, when America was changed forever – by terrorists! The kids’ school was planning an extremely large event on this eleventh anniversary of September 11, 2001. David was supposed to give a speech as the surviving spouse of one of the casualties, a daunting task at best.
As the entire community filled the auditorium, strength permeated David’s heart. He knew his words could pierce souls and make a difference to honor his wife.
“America is ours,” he said, “Anyone who tells you we’re in too deep to be free is a liar! Anyone who takes your freedoms to give them to others is a crook! And anyone who steals your security to gain power as an American leader is a fraud!”
