Farm Life

by M. J. Joachim

Life as Louisa knew it was changing rapidly now. The long drawn out pregnancy was in its last days. Thoughts of motherhood joyously entered her mind and heart.

Louisa had long been preparing for the birth of her twins. Government funding made it possible for her to stay home during her pregnancy, and take special care of the expected new arrivals. All the extra required doctor appointments didn’t bother her at all.

The taxi arrived early to take her to the hospital. Louisa’s children were delivered by C-section. When she awoke, Louisa had no recollection of ever being pregnant. Her children were sent to farms, kept alive until they no longer showed any promise of being useful to their leaders.
